Pairing guide
Rise of Kingdoms commander pairings — how to build a complete march
Build pairs by season, role, skill order, troop type, and available equipment instead of copying one universal commander list.

A pairing is primary commander → secondary commander. The order matters because the primary contributes talents and leads the march, while active skills fire in sequence. Evaluate the pair as one unit.
Begin with the job
Name the march's purpose: open field, rally, garrison, canyon, peacekeeping, or gathering. A pair built to hit structures should not inherit an open-field rating, and a garrison specialist should not consume sculptures merely because it ranks highly in defense.
Match the kingdom season
Use commanders actually available in the current kingdom. Early kingdoms and Season of Conquest have different pools and power expectations. A recommendation without season access can waste months of preparation.
Check minimum useful skill states
Record whether each commander works at 5111, 5511, 5551, or requires expertise. A theoretically stronger pair can be worse for the account when neither half reaches the skill state that enables its central effect.
Align troop and damage mechanics
Troop-specific buffs should apply to the march being sent. Active-skill, normal-attack, counterattack, smite, debuff, and support effects need compatible partners. Read both skill sequences and battle reports instead of adding two high tier labels.
Equip one pair properly
Equipment, formation, armaments, technology, and troop count can determine whether a pair survives long enough to contribute. Concentrate the best set on the strongest complete march before distributing leftovers across five weak armies.
Avoid duplicate dependencies
When planning several marches, do not assign the same commander or unique equipment twice. Also check whether several pairs depend on the same debuff, rage engine, or fragile support condition. A five-march lineup is a system, not five separate top-two lists.
Record replacements
Every recommendation should name a lower-cost substitute and a future replacement. That lets early commanders serve as bridges without pretending they remain optimal forever.
