A Where Winds Meet wanderer beginning the journey through Qinghe

Make the account decisions first

Select the server region where your friends play. Cross-play and cross-progression work inside the same region, and character data does not move between server regions. If you already have a character on another platform, link that account at the title screen before creating a new character. Two accounts that already contain characters cannot normally be linked.

Mobile creates one more choice. New mobile characters initially select Story or Recommended difficulty; Expert opens at level 30. Assist Deflection starts enabled. A character created on PC with Legend difficulty keeps that setting on mobile, so decide where the character begins before rushing through creation.

There are no fixed combat classes

Your build comes from two Martial Arts, their Path interaction, Inner Ways, gear and Mystic Skills. Start by testing a readable rhythm: Sword for an adaptable melee foundation, Spear for reach, Fan or Umbrella for ranged utility, or another family whose defensive recovery makes sense to you.

Choose one Path before improving several unrelated arts. A Path is the designed link between two Martial Arts. Its shared status or resource explains when to swap, what the second weapon contributes and which Inner Ways can trigger naturally.

Learn defense before chasing a rotation

Deflect attacks whose timing you can recognize, evade delayed strings or attacks that punish a failed deflect, and create distance when the camera or enemy group makes the sequence unclear. Watch the attacker rather than the amount of visual effect. A clean defensive answer creates a safer damage window than extending one more attack string.

Practice on the same ordinary enemy until three actions feel deliberate: defend the opening hit, recognize the end of the string, and spend one Martial Art skill during recovery. That small loop transfers to bosses far better than memorizing a long rotation without context.

Follow the main route until the guidance systems open

The opening story introduces travel, improvement and Path guidance in a useful order. Continue it until Path Guide and Improvement Guide are available, then use those screens as diagnostics. Path Guide explains intended Martial Art links; Improvement Guide points toward underdeveloped parts of the current setup. Neither requires improving every notification.

Activate Boundary Stones and nearby travel points while quests already pass them. Mark a puzzle that needs an unknown Mystic Skill and return later. Qinghe rewards curiosity, but clearing every icon before the game has taught its verbs turns exploration into unnecessary friction.

Spend around one coherent loop

Read each Inner Way trigger. Favor effects activated by actions already present in your Path: a deflect, a named skill, a status or a weapon swap. Improve the small working set before a high-rarity effect with no reliable trigger.

Apply the same rule to gear. Compare attributes that support the current Path, keep a functional set together and preserve flexible materials until you understand the next upgrade layer. Version 2.0 added Modulating Stones from salvaged Legendary Gear, so random early spending is less useful than a clear purpose.

A practical first-session checklist

  1. Choose the correct server region.
  2. Link an existing cross-platform account before character creation.
  3. Select a comfortable difficulty and tune camera and performance.
  4. Test several Martial Arts, then commit to one first Path.
  5. Practice deflect, evade and one punish window.
  6. Advance the main route until Path Guide and Improvement Guide open.
  7. Activate Boundary Stones during normal travel.
  8. Align a small Inner Way set with the Path's real triggers.
  9. Try solo exploration first, then add co-op or guild activities when they support your goal.
  10. End with one clear next objective instead of an unreadable map full of chores.
